CounsellingWhat   to Expect

Fraser Valley Counsellor

I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Abbotsford, BC, a graduate from Yorkville University with a Master of Arts in Counselling and Psychology, and an undergraduate in Applied Leadership Studies.

I am passionate about helping you find your most authentic self, and to live in the power of that reality. Being a counsellor allows me the privilege of walking alongside others as they navigate the deeper aspects of life.

Who can Benefit from Therapy?

If you are someone who is experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulties with life changes, self-worth, relationships, emotion regulation, personal development, or setting boundaries, counselling may be a helpful resource for you. I work primarily with female and LGBTQIA+ community youth, young adults, and adults in individual therapy. If you are ready to make a change, I am here to walk alongside you as you do just that.

What to Expect from Sessions

You can expect a person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach in counselling sessions with me, which means there is an understanding that you are the expert of your own experience and we can work together to find a path forward. Here, we seek to find what approach resonates with you as the client, making it unique to you and providing a safe space for the complexities of your life experience. Integrating somatic body work and emotional awareness are part of my therapy approach. I am also trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Cara as a Person

Finding joy in the small moments is a practiced skill I am always working on. I enjoy being in the outdoors, whether that be hiking or swimming (or cold plunging), road cycling or walking with a friend, many forms of movement bring me joy and a grounding energy. I also love a good book, whether that is getting lost in a novel or learning about psychology, my adopted bunny is always nearby keeping me company. If you ask me, I usually have a few different types of creative projects on the go such as sewing, crocheting, baking, or some other new creative outlet that allows my artistic expression to flow freely.
